Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned as follows: Argent (Silver Gray), three chevronels Azure (Old Glory Blue), on a chief of the last an eagle displayed Or perched on a wagon wheel issuing from base of the field, rims and spoke of the third charged with three mullets of the first (White). Across the bottom of the device is a Dark Blue scroll inscribed "SUPPORT AND PROTECT" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Blue and gray refer to the Battalion's support to the 29th Infantry Division. The 29th Infantry Division is nicknamed the "Blue and Gray" as its lineage goes back to when it was composed of units from states that fought on both sides of the American Civil War. The eagle, symbol of strength and vigilance, and the wagon wheel are adapted from the Quartermaster branch insignia. They emphasize the logistics role of the Battalion. The chief also represents the Command Group and Staff of the Battalion. Chevrons are symbols of support and strength. The three highlight the following three major groupings in the Battalion: support functions (medical, transportation, maintenance and food service), communications/signal support and security/military police in wartime. They are interlaced to denote cooperation and teamwork.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 October 2008.
